Speaker O’Brien Salutes Pennsylvania’s Mothers

HARRISBURG, May 10 - Speaker of the House Dennis M. O’Brien today issued the following statement:

“Sunday is Mother’s Day across the nation. This is time we set aside to recognize our mothers and thank them for all they have done for us.

“Our mothers are precious. They shape our characters and values and provide us with unconditional love and support throughout our lifetimes. Although with each day comes the opportunity to honor our mothers, this Sunday marks the formal recognition of the important role mothers play in the lives of all of us.

“Mothers, whether working full time as homemakers or as part of the labor force, remain the cornerstone of the family, and with compassion and understanding mothers inspire children to live up to their full potential. Through our mothers’ love we develop a sense of self-worth and self-esteem.  Our children become well-adjusted, healthy adults because of our mothers’ caring, wisdom and experience.

“Our mothers contribute to our future by serving as a source of strength in times of difficulty, encouragement in moments of doubt, and comfort in periods of distress.

“Motherhood is a lifelong challenge, yet a most rewarding task, fulfilled through the loving dedication and commitment of women across the world.  That is why we cherish them.

“I join my colleagues in the House of Representatives in urging all Pennsylvanians to honor their mothers and mothers everywhere for the many valuable contributions they make to our lives, our families and our society.  I personally am grateful to my mother, Patricia, for her lifelong love and support and to my terrific wife Bernadette, who is a devoted and loving mother of our three boys.”
