Photographic art on display at Capitol
HARRISBURG – Calling the work “outstanding” Speaker of the House Dennis M. O’Brien has kicked off the 6th Speaker-sponsored art exhibition in the Capitol’s East Wing Rotunda.
The exhibition features photographs by Shedrick Sloane, a Steelton native and Harrisburg artist who works with diverse subject matter, but primarily wildlife and nature.
“From seascapes to still life to striking images of our State Capitol, Sloane’s work reflects the genius of a fellow Pennsylvanian,” O’Brien said. “Central Pennsylvanians, especially, can be proud of this homegrown talent.”
The 26 photographs will be in place in the East Wing gallery space through the end of December, allowing thousands of holiday season visitors to view the exhibition.
According to Sloane, it is “my wish to evoke a reaction in the viewer that communicates the moment in time the artwork was created.”
Sloane has been involved in all aspects of conventional photography since 1980. In 2003, he adopted the challenges of the new technology of digital photography. Since then, he has been steadily working toward becoming a master craftsman at digital photography and the art of print making.
The artist also has an extensive background in the art of presentation, skilled in the areas of mat design, mat cutting, and mounting and framing which brings a second dimension to Sloane’s work.
Since 1985, Sloane has participated in touring shows in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and Perry County Council of the Arts.
